Emily Hawley Gillespie diaries, 1858 Mar. 29-1888 Mar. 11.

The diaries record Emily Hawley Gillespie's life as a seamstress and teacher until 1861 when she moved to her uncle's home near Manchester. She taught one year, married James Gillespie in 1862, and raised two children. The diaries include accounts, local and political events, records of quilting, sewing, baking, and raising turkeys. Poor health and family problems fill the last entries.
